The Clone Wars
The Clone Wars mark the final period of the Galactic Republic. A number of systems, after seeing the Jedi taking action without the Senate’s approval, vocally objected to the Jedi’s actions, and called for Senatorial sanction of the Order and outright dismemberment. When the Republic Senate failed to take such rash and extreme action, the systems stated their intention to secede from the Republic as a whole.
After a period of escalating tensions between the Separatist systems and the Republic, an assassination plot (masterminded by Count Dooku) against members of the Galactic Senate resulted in a formal declaration of war between the Separatist and Republic. As the Jedi were too few in number to counter the easily produced droids of the Separatist army, the Senate approved a motion to allow the cloning of troops for a fast conscription and training of an army of the needed size.
Since the Republic’s army was comprised solely of clones, the first army of so grand a size, the war quickly became known for the distinctive soldiers, garnering the name, The Clone Wars. While the Republic was successful in the war, it spelled the end of the Republic Era, and the start of the Galactic Empire.
